News Updates

1. Wish all the members of CMI family the peace and joy of Christmas and the prosperity of the New Year 2017.
2. 75 (73 in India and 2 in Kenya) novices made their first commitment in the CMI family in December, 2016. May the Lord bless them abundantly for a committed religious life!
3. The meeting of the provincials of the North Indian Provinces was held on 7th December in Mary Matha Provincial House, Bellampalli. Rev. Fr. Vicar General presided over the meeting and discussed issues connected with novitiate formation and change of novitiate house.
4. Rev. Fr. Saju Chackalackal, the General Councillor for Evangelization and Pastoral Ministry visited our missionaries in Namibia, Madagascar and Kenya from 4th to 22nd December, 2016. He attended the blessing of the new formation house in Anasirabe in Madagascar. He also attended the first profession and final profession ceremony of our members in Kenya.
5. The quinquennial program for the junior priests was held from December 10th to 12th in Chavara Hills, Kakkanad. 39 junior priests attended the enrichment program, the last one for the year. Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. Dr. Lida Jacob IAS and Rev. Fr. Shaji Kochuthara addressed the young priests. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Vicar General and Rev. Fr. Paulson Thaliyath for organizing the program very effectively. Members who could not be present for the program were offered special programs in smaller groups in Chavara Hills.
6. Light on the Burnt Horizon was released on 10th December, 2016 in Christ Nagar School by Mr. Sashi Tharoor M.P.Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedath, General Councillor for Education and Mass Media presided over the meeting. The book has been well designed and written by the editor Rev. Fr. John Mannarathara. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. John Mannarathra for the creative literary initiative. It is good to have a copy of the book in all our houses and institutions.
7. Rev. Fr. Tomy Kattampilly CMI was awarded Ph.D for his dissertation: THE DIVINE NECESSITY IN THE LIFE OF JESUS AND HIS DISCIPLES: AN ENQUIRY INTO THE USE OF ??? IN LUKE-ACTS from JDV Pune. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Tomy.
8. A National Conference on Paradigms in Formation was held in DVK organized by Vinaysadhana Institute of Formative Spirituality and Counselling in connection with its Silver Jubilee. Rev. Fr. Prior General inaugurated the program. The two day conference was highly appreciated by the participants. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Francis Thonippara and team.
9. Retreat for the deacons was held in CSR Pariyram from 16th to 22nd December. Rev. Fr. Joseph Pamplaniyil was the retreat preacher.
10. The feast of St. Kuriakose Elias will be held in Chavara Pilgrim Centre, Mannanam on 3rd January, 2017. The newly ordained priests will celebrate the Holy Mass at 10 a.m. on the feast day.
11. The newly ordained priests of CMI congregation will be welcomed on 3rd January, 2017 at CMI Prior General's House, Chavara Hills and on 4th January they will concelebrate Holy Mass with Chavara Hills community.
12. A meeting was held in Kainakary to discuss on the celebration of the feast of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara to be held on 12th February, 2017. Rev. Fr. Antony Elamthottam, General Councillor for Finance presided over the meeting. Rev. Fr. Johnson, the director of Chavara Sadan, Kainakary led the discussion. Rev. Fr. James Madathikandam and Rev. Fr. Joseph Ayyankary were present along with the representatives of people from around.
13. The meeting of the Provincials and General Council will be held on 4th and 5th January, 2017 at Chavara Hills.
14. The Mini Educational Summit will be held on 5th and 6th January at Chavara Hills. Rev. Dr. Valsan Thampu, former Principal of St. Stephen's College will address the gathering.
15. Rev. Fr. John Elavathingal and Rev. Fr. Benoy Joseph will be installed the Vicar and Asst. Vicar of Aparecida Parish in Santarem Diocese, Brazil on the feast of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, 3rd January, 2017. This is the first parish we take up in Brazil. In other three parishes the installation will be held in the following weeks in the presence of Rev. Fr. Saju Chackalackal, the General Councillor for Evangelization and Pastoral Ministry and the provincials.

. Mrs. Thressiamma (87), beloved mother of Rev. Fr. Jacob Marangattu CMI (Chavara Vice Province, Bhavnagar), slept in the Lord on 10.12.2016.
. Mrs. Thresiamma (90), beloved mother of Fr. Isaac Punnoor CMI (St. Joseph Province, TVM, presently doing M.Tech in Christ University, Bangalore), slept in the Lord on 10.12.2016.
. Mr. Anto Panikulam (76), beloved younger brother of Rev. Fr. Rupert Panikulam CMI (Preshitha Province, COI), slept in the Lord on 13.12.2016.
. Rev. Sr. Antonitta SH (81) beloved sister of Rev. Fr. Joseph Kappukatt CMI (Chavara Contemplative Ashram, Kakkadampoil- St. Thomas Province, Kozhikode) and Rev. Fr. Thomas Oswald Kappukatt CMI (Mar Thoma Province, Chanda), slept in the Lord on 16.12.2016.
. Mrs. Mary-87, beloved mother of Fr Joseph Kunniparambil CMI (St. Thomas Province, Kozhikode), slept in the Lord on 17.12.2016.
