The Congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) is the first indigenous religious congregation in India.

1. Wish every CMI member the blessings for a renewed life during the season of lent.

2. Meeting of the scholastics who study in College for graduation and post-graduation in the South Indian Provinces was held from 26 January 2018 to 28 January 2018 at Chavara Hills. Rev. Fr. Vicar General welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. Rev. Fr. Francis Manavalan and Rev. Fr. Paul Pottackal and Rev. Fr. Augustine Pamplany gave them inputs. 47 scholastics attended the program. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheruparambil, the General Formation Coordinator.

3. Convocation in DVK was held on 29th January 2018. Rev. Fr. Prior General presided over the function and awarded the degrees and Rev. Dr Valsan Thampu gave an inspiring Convocation address.

4. International Seminar on “St. Thomas Christians through the Ages: A Historiographical Approach” was held from January 30 to February 1, 2018, at Mannanam jointly organized by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara Archives and Research Centre, St. Joseph’s Monastery and Christ University. His Beatitude Cardinal Mar George Alencherry was the chief guest. His Grace Mar Joseph Perunthottam inaugurated the seminar and Rev. Fr. Prior General presided over the function. There was a large gathering of participants from all over the world. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Jose C C, Coordinator of the Seminar, Rev. Fr. Prior and team at Mannanam for having organized the program excellently.

5. Get together of our members in brotherhood was held from 2 February 2018 to 4 February 2018 at Chavara Hills. Rev. Fr. Vicar General welcomed the brothers. Rev. Fr. Prior General and Rev. Fr. Thomas Aykara addressed the members and the program was rich with their experience sharing. 50% of our lay brothers attended the function. Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheruparambil, the General Formation Coordinator organized the event.

6. Chavara Day was celebrated on February 6, 2018, in connection with the birthday of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara inviting the priests and the religious in the vicinity of Chavara Hills. Around 130 Priests and Religious joined us for the prayer and the dinner.


7. Annual National Seminar on ‘Contemplation and Proclamation: Carmelite Charisma for a Renewed Indian Mission’ was held from February 9 to 11, 2018 at CMI Prior General’s House. 160 participants attended the function from 14 different Carmelite Religious Congregations. Rev. Fr. Prior General presided over the function, and Rev. Fr. Kurian Perumpillikunnel presented a paper on “Stay awake Sanjuanist call to Contemplative Proclamation”. Rev. Fr. James Pampara was the moderator of a session. In all, there were 12 scientific papers dealing with contemplation and proclamation in the Carmelite tradition, some of them dealing with the charism of specific religious congregations Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Saju Chackalackal the Coordinator of the seminar and Chavara Hills community for having organized it.

8. 150th Anniversary of the “Testament of a Loving” Father written by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and 213th Chavara Jayanthi will be jointly celebrated by CMI and CMC congregations from 10 am to 3.30 pm on February 13, 2018 at Town Hall, Ernakulam. Prof: Mk Sanu, will inaugurate the program. Dr. C. V. Anandabose IAS (Rtd), Smt. Lida Jacob IAS (Rtd) and Mr. Sajay K.V. will speak on different themes of Chavarul in today’s family context. The message of Chavarul will also be presented through cultural programmes like Dance, One Act Play and music.
9. The preparatory program for the resource persons of CMI Renewal Program will be held from 6 pm on 14th February to 4 p.m. on 18th February 2018 in CMI Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, Kakkanad.

10. Gathering of CMIs ordained between 1970 and 1980 will be held from 26 February 2018 to 28 February 2018 at Chavara Hills.

11. Gathering of CMIs ordained between 1960 and 1970 will be held from 9 March 2018 to 11 March 2018 at Chavara Hills.

12. Gathering of CMIs ordained in 2016 will be held from 6 pm 13th March 2018, to 04.00 pm 15 March 2018, at CMI Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, Kakkanad.

13. Get together of the newly professed CMIs will be held in Chavara Hills from 7th evening to 10th evening in April 2018. On 10th they will make a pilgrimage to Mannanam and Kainakary.

14. Next CMI General Plenary Assembly will be held from 04 January 2019 to 09 January 2019 at Chavara Hills Kakkanad. All the provincials, Regional, Sub regional and delegate Superiors, Co coordinator Generals and Former Prior Generals shall attend the program along with the nominated members of each province.
