Meeting of the newly professed juniors and novices
Rev. Fr Prior General had a web conference with the newly professed juniors from 4-7 May, 2021. The purpose of the conference was to meet the newly professed members and wish them well for their forthcoming philosophical formation. Fr Joshy Cheruparambil, the General Formation Coordinator, organized the meeting.
Pre-philosophy Course
The Pre-philosophy course was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 12 May at 9.00 a.m. The students attended from their respective provinces both in India and Kenya. Rev. Fr Prior General delivered the inaugural message emphasising the inevitability to get transformed by bridging the skill gaps. Rev. Fr Vicar General had set the track of the course by his message and Rev. Fr Rector cordially welcomed the freshers to Dharmaram. Fr Joshy Cheruparambil, the general formation coordinator, Fr Tomy Kattampally, the master, Fr Johnson Moolakkatt, the animator also blessed the occasion through their presence.
Preparatory Course for the Final Profession
Online preparatory course for the final profession of our 45 brothers was inaugurated by Rev. Fr Prior General on 14 May 2021. He urged the brothers to open the unlimited chances of change for changing the world with ChriSt Rectors of the major study houses from Bangalore, Bhopal, Pune and General Formation Coordinator were present in the inauguration session. The course and retreat will be concluded on 27th May.
COVID-19: CMI Response
Rev. Fr Biju Vadakkel, General Councillor for Social Apostolate and Health-care, on 15th May in collaboration with CEVA organized an online meeting to find out new ways and means to tackle the second and third waves of COVID-19. Rev. Fr Prior General made the introductory address followed by the sharing from the directors of our major hospitals. General Councillors, Provincials, Provincial Councillors, Heads of our different institutions, etc. spoke in the virtual gathering. Based on the discussions, various proposals, action plans, guidelines, etc. would be formulated to help and support those people affected with COVID-19 and their families.
CIIS, Rome: Chavara Lectures 2021
St Chavara Institute of Indian and Inter-Religious Studies (CIIS), Rome, organized the Chavara Lecture 2021 in online mode on the topic, ‘Priestly formation and its challenges today’ from May 22 to 23. During the input sessions Mar Thomas Tharayil, Auxiliary Bishop, Archieparchy of Changanacherry, stressed on the significance of affective maturity during the formation of the candidates to priesthood. Rev. Fr Prior General gave the concluding message and Fr Kurian Kachappilly moderated the sessions. Congratulations to Fr Cherian Thunduparampil and his team for making the programme very effective.

Rev. Fr Anto Nayangara CMI successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Urban University (Urbanianum), Rome.
Rev. Fr George Nereparambil CMI successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Hindi literature at the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai.
Rev. Fr Sunil Kizhakkayil CMI is awarded the Kunjan Nambiar Kavitha Puraskaram for his beautiful work “Huyaan Saanginte Koottukaari”.
Rev. Fr Roy Kannanchira CMI, Kochettan of Deepika Children’s League, is awarded the literature award by Sahithi International.

Member of the Theological Commission for the Synod of Bishops, Vatican
Rev. Fr. Thomas Kollamparampil CMI is appointed as a member of the Theological Commission for the Synod of Bishops, Vatican. Among 22 international members, Fr. Thomas Kollamparampil CMI from Dharmaram Vidya Kahetram, Bangalore, is the appointed member from India. Next Vatican Synod of Bishops will be inaugurated in October 2021 on the theme, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.” Congratulations and best wishes dear Fr. Thomas!

? Rev. Fr Jacob Thanniyil CMI (82) (St Joseph Province, Kottayam) was called to eternal reward on 10 May 2021, suffering from COVID-19. The Funeral was held on the same day, 10 May 2021 at 5.30 pm at St Vincent Monastery Chapel, Pala.

? Rev. Fr Issac Alappat Palathingal CMI (86) (Devamatha Province, Thrissur) was called to eternal reward on, 03 May 2021. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, 05 May 2021 at 10 am at Christ Monastery, Irinjalakuda.

? Mr Varghese Vazhappilly (74), the beloved elder brother of Rev. Fr Thomas Vazhappilly CMI and cousin of Rev. Fr Mathew Vazhappilly CMI (St John’s Province, Bijnor) was called to eternal reward on 23 May 2021. The funeral service was at 10.30 am on 24 May 2021.

? Mr K. J. Joseph (92), the beloved father of Rev. Fr Vinod Kanatt CMI (St Chavara Vice-Province, Bhavnagar) was called to eternal reward on 21 May 2021. The funeral service was held at 03.00 pm on 22 May 2021 at St Dominic Church, Mundankel, Pala.

? Mr Thomas Philip (Thomaskutty) (47), the beloved brother of Rev. Fr Jomon Philip Karikunnel CMI (St John’s Province, Bijnor) was called to eternal reward on 21 May 2021. Earlier COVID-19 had claimed the lives of both his parents, Mr KT Philip (71) and Mrs Mary Philip (66) on the same day (16 April 2021), while the wife of his brother, Mrs Smitha (43) too lost her battle with the pandemic on 17 April 2021.

? Mrs Annam Varieed (86), beloved mother of Rev. Fr Sunny Punneliparambil CMI (Devamatha Province) was called to eternal reward on 20 May 2021. The funeral service is at 04.00 pm on 21 May 2021 at St Mary's Church, Kuzhikkattussery.
